Kensington Laboratories Is Independent Again RICHMOND , CA (December 15, 2005)-As of December 1, 2005, Kensington Laboratories has been divested from its former corporate parent. Kensington Laboratories will continue operations as a privately held company under the original name of Kensington Laboratories, LLC. A private financial group is funding the company divestiture. After 20 years as a leader in automation products and robotics, Kensington Laboratories was acquired by Newport Corporation (NASDAQ: NEWP) in 2001. Earlier this year, Newport had announced its plans for divestiture of this division also known as Newport-Kensington, Richmond . Going forward as an independent firm, Kensington plans to extend its product line and expand its business focus. Says Raj Kaul, President and CEO of Kensington Laboratories, "Kensington has a long history of being a technology leader in precision stages, robotics, and automation for semiconductor capital equipment market segment. We will continue to invest in technology innovation and provide added focus on customer service to work closely with our customers to help them succeed." Under the sale agreement Kensington Laboratories will continue to manufacture certain precision positioning stage products for Newport Corporation, and Newport will continue to market and sell the precision stage products. As a privately held company, Kensington Laboratories plans to go back to its roots, designing and manufacturing industry-leading engineering solutions. The company is also committed to providing the personal attention, custom solutions, and high quality their customers expect. Kensington customers will continue to benefit from the strong engineering and manufacturing team and the planned extension of the product line. In addition, Kensington plans to offer contract design services and manufacturing services to its customer base to add more value in semiconductor and related industries.
